Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia
Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia (MEN) refers to a group of rare, inherited disorders that affect the endocrine glands, leading to the development of benign or malignant tumors. These conditions are caused by genetic mutations and are classified into several types based on the affected glands and associated tumors also known as Werner’s syndrome, this type involves tumors in the parathyroid glands, the pituitary gland, and the pancreas. It is caused by mutations in the MEN1 gene. These syndromes require careful monitoring and management due to the potential for multiple tumors and associated complications. Genetic counseling is often recommended for affected individuals and their families.
