EDCs (Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals)

Endocrine Disrupting Chemicals (EDCs) are substances that interfere with the endocrine (hormone) systems of organisms. These chemicals can mimic, block, or alter the normal functioning of hormones, leading to a range of health problems. EDCs are found in various everyday products such as plastics, cosmetics, pesticides, and industrial chemicals. Exposure to EDCs has been linked to developmental, reproductive, neurological, and immune issues in both humans and wildlife. Notable examples of EDCs include bisphenol A (BPA), phthalates, and certain pesticides like DDT. Reducing exposure to EDCs involves regulatory actions, safer product alternatives, and public awareness initiatives.
